We provide a full package for designing
suitable treatment schemes for all air conditioning, space or equipment heating
or cooling applications
and help with plant selection. Naturally we need to have as much
information as possible about the systems involved and the objects of the treatment
scheme you want to install in order to help you. We normally make no
charge at all for this service - on the assumption that you will buy our scheme
when and if you decide to proceed. If you decide to proceed using our scheme but
buying from an alternative supplier we reserve the right to submit charges for
our design service (but we rarely do !).
We have many customers with private water sources and are experienced in designing schemes to provide potable water from them. If you would like help on the feasibility of using your private water source please contact our technical staff. For this service we, again, normally make no charge for the initial assessment of feasibility, but we will certainly expect to be paid if you wish us to draw up a full design (whether you use our equipment or not) and we shall require a recent full analysis of the water to be treated and a schematic drawing of the existing (or intended) water supply system. Alternatively, we will arrange to attend your premises to take water samples for analysis and make our own schematic drawings of the existing system but this service is also chargeable at our current rates.
We will be pleased to provide a written
quotation for any scheme we design or to offer alternative prices
for any scheme you have already designed.
Quotations are normally prepared and sent out within seven working days but we can nearly always give a verbal, of fax, quotation the same day (even within an hour or so if the plant is all standard and you can provide the necessary information to select equivalent plant from our range!).
Prices for services 'on site' will be quoted based on the information you provide to us by telephone, fax or mail and a written offer sent to you based on that information. Should the information you have given proves to be wrong or incomplete we reserve the right to vary the price accordingly but we will always notify you about this and negotiate a new price first.
All chemicals and most items of standard
plant are available from stock (or can be assembled within a very
short time from component stocks) which means that nearly all
orders for standard products are despatched that day or within 1 to 5 days
from receipt of order, depending on the complexity of the order. Goods are normally despatched via carriers
but may be collected if preferred.
If you need it in a hurry but can't get to our Trade Counter we will arrange to despatch it for you on 'next day delivery' provided it is a stock item and you can 'phone, or fax the order before 2 p.m. If you do not have a credit trading account with us you can still take advantage of this facility if you pay by credit card (we accept all the major ones).
Aldous & Stamp provide
full analytical
services for water quality - both mineral and biological.
Biological analyses include the standard potable water tests, TVC, Legionella,
Pseudomonas and any other microbe you wish to identify. Samples may be sent by post or carrier to
us or we can arrange to collect samples from a site for you. The analytical
and site collection services are, of course, provided on a chargeable basis.
Samples are sent or taken to a UKAS registered laboratory for analysis and you
are sent their report.
For biological analysis it is important that the samples are collected in the correct manner and in suitable containers - we recommend that you entrust this service to us. Sending a vitally important sample for a TVC analysis in an old lemonade bottle, for example, is not a good idea.
If you need help or advice urgently on this important service please do telephone us - there is no faster way to get help from any supplier! Lines are open from 08.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday.
For existing and potential customers using (or intending to use) one of our range of closed circuit inhibitors (i.e. a heating or chilled water system) we provide a special 'low cost' service. Send us a sample of the water currently circulating in the system you are concerned about with some information about what type of system water we are looking at and what you are concerned about (we need about 250 ml) and we will provide you with a written analysis giving results for pH, TDS, Dipslide and Hardness and we will advise you whether or not it contains any known inhibitor, if the inhibitor it is supposed to contain is up to the right strength, and/or, how to best deal with your concerns. We make a nominal charge for this service of £45 per sample whether you subsequently buy our products or not.
The services of our engineering staff to
set up and put the treatment scheme to work - and to instruct
customer personnel on the routine operation of the plant - are
readily available.
All equipment is supplied with detailed instructions for commissioning and operating, of course, but with more involved schemes it is often advisable to employ us to commission and explain the plant to save time and headaches. Our charges for this service are very reasonable and are normally calculated on a time and distance travelled basis but, if you need to have a firm idea of the cost beforehand we can usually give a fixed price.
Commissioning of water treatment plant is usually quite straightforward, if you follow the instructions carefully (like any other piece of kit), but so many people seem to get into difficulties that we recommend using our services, mostly on the basis that you can then blame us if there are problems and secondly that our charges are so reasonable that it will probably cost you less, in the end, to have us do the job for you anyway !
If you have just bought and installed some kit from us and need help to put it into service, try giving us a telephone call. Most times we can guide you through the process over the 'phone.
Our Service Department will be pleased to
discuss a routine servicing programme with you and can provide
visits on a planned schedule to maintain the treatment scheme in
full working order and to check water quality and chemical levels
for a fixed price per visit. Written reports on our findings and
the work done are provided on every visit.
Alternatively you may prefer to carry out your own routine maintenance and only call us in if there is a problem you can't deal with. This service is available on a time, travelling and materials basis. We can provide on site services outside of normal hours if necessary by prior arrangement.
Over
the last decade there have been significant advances with the technology of
closed circuit systems and the controls used in them. Modern systems use small
bore multi-port valves with high efficiency fan coil units and they require the
highest standards of cleanliness.
Before new or refurbished systems are put into service the pipework should be cleansed in accordance with industry established standards and recommendations. The BSRIA Application Guide AG1/2001, which is a revision of Application Guide AG8/91, incorporates new recommendations and procedures to help combat the growing incidence of bacteria related contamination in closed systems as well as the normal 'debris' contamination. We are well experienced in this work and all the current requirements.
Aldous & Stamp have invested in high velocity temporary flushing pumps and associated equipment to enable the cleansing and flushing of individual sections, or circuits, of a particular system. This ability permits a flexible approach to 'phased handover' for the Mechanical Services Contractor on new and refurbishment projects.
It is very important that the water treatment scheme is applied and commissioned as soon as the pre-commissioning cleansing is completed to the satisfaction of the Engineer. If we do the cleansing - this is automatic !
Every new hot water and cold water service
system should be disinfected by chlorination immediately before it
is put into use. Similarly, if repairs or alterations are made to
such systems they should be disinfected again. The work should be
carried out in accordance with the current code of practice (at
the moment BS6700).
On completion of the disinfection process water samples must be taken for bacteriological analysis (post disinfection) and submitted to a UKAS registered laboratory. The post disinfection results must meet the current criteria (or the disinfection process must be repeated) and the whole process certified.
Aldous & Stamp have been providing this service, in accordance with whatever codes of practice were in force at the time, for the last thirty years and issuing certification that the work has been done correctly and that the post disinfection results meet the required criteria.
To obtain a quotation for our chlorination service simply 'phone, fax or e-mail the details of the systems and the building(s) they serve. Our long experience in the work is such that we can usually give you a price straight away.
We can turn your old storage tank into one that
is as good as, or better than, new !
Sectional or one piece galvanised steel storage tanks will, after a certain period of time, begin to corrode internally and cause problems for the water stored in them and for those who use the water !
To save the inconvenience 'down time' and cost associated with replacement, as well as possible plumbing problems, Aldous & Stamp can carry out the lining of the internal surfaces of such tanks using Archo Rigidon Nu-Tank 400E epoxy ling system or Aquakote Rapide epoxy lining system.
These products are 'fume free' so extraction is not necessary and the lining systems are ideal in confined spaces or in sensitive areas such as hospitals and residential care homes where unpleasant fumes could certainly create problems.
If the tank is in a very poor condition we can also carry out a lamination process which effectively creates a new tank inside the original one. The existing tank acts as a 'mould' and a new GRP tank lining is constructed inside the original tank. If required we can also apply suitable thermal insulation, inside the original tank, before carrying out the GRP lamination.
Byelaw 30: Cold water storage tanks should have a rigid close fitting lid which is securely fixed, not airtight, excludes light and insects and is made from materials that do not shatter or fragment when broken and which will not contaminate any water which condenses on its underside.
Aldous & Stamp supply purpose made insulated tank lids complete with screened breather vents and inspection hatches for maintenance of the ball float valve. These lids can be manufactured to pass through small manways (in sections) and then bolted together before fitting to the tank.
Byelaw 30: We can also carry out external insulation of cold water storage tanks for protection against heat or frost as required in the Byelaw. The insulation is 50mm thick, foil faced Rockwool Insulation (45 density) and is secured with stick pins and tape.
Water filled systems that have not been
protected by suitable water treatment will become clogged up with
scale, or corrosion oxides (or both in many cases) severely
reducing the efficiency of the system. We provide the chemicals
for our customers to descale such systems themselves or we will
do the job for them.
Once the system is clean again it must be protected to prevent the same thing happening.
Again, we supply the chemicals and equipment for our customers to do it themselves or we can design and install any necessary treatment plant, dose the system(s) with suitable treatment chemicals and provide the regular attention needed to maintain the plant and the treatment levels.
It is the responsibility of the Building
Services manager to take all reasonable measures to avoid the
risk of Legionellosis in all buildings where the Health and
Safety at Work Act applies. These requirements are detailed in
the HSC ACOP L8 2001.
To comply with these requirements it is necessary for the building(s) to be surveyed and a 'Risk Assessment' prepared. If the occupier of the building feels competent to carry out the survey and assess the risks himself it is perfectly in order for him to do so. If he is not confident that he has the necessary technical knowledge to do this he should employ an outside firm who can provide that competence.
Aldous & Stamp offer the service of carrying out the survey and producing a comprehensive written Risk Assessment which will take full account of the above mentioned code and guideline and will also incorporate the requirements of Water Byelaw 30 - which is also relevant to health and safety in these circumstances.
